EXCLA!M

EXCLA!M is an online magazine that entertains and enlightens readers about issues close to home here in Singapore. We aim to put forth a variety of perspectives and infuse a breath of fresh air into the stories we write.

The exclamation mark in the term “EXCLA!M” alludes to content worthy of attention and directs focus to the stories written by seven inquisitive individuals from EXCLA!M.

Sit back, relax and enjoy.

EDITOR'S NOTE

When my team and I had our first meeting, it did not take long for us to decide on our magazine name. We had the same exact vision–to bring out the best in our stories.

With the spread of COVID-19, 2020 has been bizarre and we are still living in uncertain times. As a team of seven, meeting up in real-life would definitely be a breach in social distancing rules. Even though we have to communicate through a screen, the passion and enthusiasm to showcase our stories never left.

To lighten up the mood during trying times, we shine light on the most popular, relatable and inspiring stories from our four categories–Lifestyle, Technology, People, and Community. For a starter, check out our featured stories in our Home page!

We want everyone to learn something new from our stories, just like we did while writing them. With that being said, our stories will definitely be worthy of your attention so get ready for a loud, blaring EXCLA!M.

With lots of love,

“If there is a will, there will always be a way.”

Phylicia is a passionate writer who loves learning more about others and sharing their stories. She actively seeks out new story ideas and is always excited to share them with the world.

She loves drinking bubble tea and hanging out with her friends, both of which she was deprived of during the Circuit Breaker.

If you see her, don’t be alarmed if she starts throwing hand signs, because they are probably just TikTok dances.

“Bloom where you are planted.”

Ruth is a friendly person who is a self-proclaimed extroverted-introvert. She loves reading a good old English classic while drinking a cup of artisanal tea and eating wholesome baked goods.

You can count on Ruth if you need any editorial help as she has a good eye for detail. During her free time, you will find her writing calligraphy or painting watercolours in her sketchbook.

If not, she’ll have her eyes glued to her laptop watching Korean cooking shows while mentally trying to recognise the Korean subtitles.

“A positive attitude gives you power over your circumstances, instead of your circumstances having power over you.”

Genevieve is a bubbly and outgoing individual who always recharges the team with her humorous antics after a long discussion.

Her hair is so bright, you can always spot her from a mile away. But fret not! Her hair might always be changing but her dedication towards work never changes.

If you see her on her phone, she’s probably watching her K-pop boy’s fancam... again.

“If I do it now, I won’t have to do it later.”

Serafina (or just Sera for short) is a patient and down-to-earth person who can always cheer you up with her many photos of cute animals.

Despite always not knowing how to introduce herself, she’s always on task and makes sure to keep a lookout for everyone in the team.

If you can’t reach her in the morning, she’s probably still grocery shopping at the nearby supermarket, stocking up on her favourite yogurt.

“Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments.”

Niki is a meticulous writer who enjoys reading and sharing stories that she can relate to. She is always on the lookout for new music, stories and news.

She loves going on food adventures and listening to music in the comfort of her own room. She also has the tendency to spend too much money online shopping.

If you see her around, feel free to strike up a conversation as she is pretty friendly!

“Work is meaningless without effort, and effort is meaningless without thought.”

Joey is an easy-going person with a penchant for goofy humour. He’s always ready to help out a friend, and never hesitates to compliment someone whenever he sees the opportunity to.

Being an only child, he spends much of his time seeking out more people to talk to, whether it be online or offline.

If you spot him out in the street, shoot him a hello and a winning smile; he’s starved for attention.

Amanda Tay

“Auntie, can I get one teh o kosong takeaway please?”

Amanda swears by her cup of tea either before early lectures or tutorial classes to start her day right.

Despite her aloof exterior, Amanda is a good-natured person who appreciates a good laugh with close friends.

She enjoys looking at memes and silly content on the internet, so don’t be startled if you see her giggling to herself while on her phone.

If you’re feeling troubled, stop her for a quick chit chat because she’ll definitely try to offer some heartfelt advice.
